2MF Weekly Twitter Updates for the Week Ending 2010-08-29
Sunday, August 29th, 2010AMEX Makes You Feel Horrible Asking for Help with Debt
Monday, August 16th, 2010After our recent video on lowering the interest rate on your credit card, I found a new story about a guy who was put to shame for asking AMEX to help him restructure his payments in order to pay off his balance. Trust me, this really isn’t how it works in real life. He must’ve had a bad customer service rep.

2MF Quick Draw – Cable vs. Phone Company, Triple Play Packages
Monday, August 16th, 2010We’ve heard it all before…
“The cable company has faster internet.” “The phone company has clearer phone calls.” But really, when it comes right down to it…who has the better pricing? I mean, let’s be honest, we’re in a down economy. We all need to watch the bottom line. So here comes our first 2MF Quick Draw.
Today, we’re comparing Triple Play (Internet, telephone and television) discounted combo packages. For this this Quick Draw, we compared Comcast (Xfinity) versus AT&T (Uverse); two of the biggest communication providers in the nation. I took their advertised triple play package from their website on August 9, 2010 and factored in all of the promotions, but not taxes and fees.
On pricing alone over a three-year period, AT&T beats Comcast hands down. The costs start to really widen Month 7 and beyond:
But wait! I heard an internet troll whine: “But you can’t compare X package to Y package!” Fine, I’ll give you that. Here’s the advertised package on the front page of each company’s website that I used in this comparison:
Comcast (Monthly): Year 1 = $99, Year 2 = $114.99, Year 3 = $129.99
(Source: Comcast)
AT&T (Monthly): Regular Pricing = $91.94
(Source: AT&T)
Anyway, the bottom line is this. Use this information as a great starting point to begin thinking about how to compare services. Sure, AT&T won this Quick Draw. But there’s so many ways to slice-and-dice information. At the end of the day, you’re responsible for your own purchases. Make sure you keep yourself informed.
